Infrastructure remediation design was required as a result of coastal erosion on this site located on the South coast of the UK. There was a limited window of time to conduct the measured survey at beach level during low tide, which was overcome by the use of laser scanning equipment. On this occasion a Trimble X7 scanner for speed and easy registration of multiple scans, along with the use of virtual reference station RTK GPS technology (Trimble VRS and an R12i receiver) . This enabled fast and accurate delivery of our clients requirements to provide 2D elevations and topographic survey plans. However the 3D colour point cloud deliverable offered potential for a vast number of dimensional and 3D vector information, directly into the hands of the design engineers in addition to the survey specification.
